Jesus Christ

The New Church is a Bible-based Christian religion which utilizes the theological writings of Emanuel Swedenborg as the lens through which it views the Bible. Our Church is a vibrant and inclusive family, dedicated to sharing the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. We come together to worship, learn, and support one another on our spiritual journeys. We believe in fostering a sense of belonging, where everyone is embraced for who they are.

History

The Brisbane Society of the New Church was founded in 1865 and amongst its early activists was noted early Colonist and State Ornithologist, Mr. Sylvester Diggles, who also for a time was its Leader. Its first Church was in Wickham Terrace from which it moved in 1909 to a larger building in Ann St. From the late 1800’s through until the time of his passing, the well-known Community philanthropist, Mr. George Marchant was a leading member.
